Tied for the best movie I have ever seen

... View MoreThis is a better movie that comes off better than you think, with a half decent story and capable performances, most impressive, that of an uncharacteristic, scruffy bearded Gail, who heads the worst taxi business in, well, D.C. Just watch how some of his weird, wacky, and totally likable drivers, conduct their work, and that's what makes it enjoyable fun. It's characters, the wild Busey, the memorable standout, apart from Gail. This movie has the right pool of actors, including Mr T, a must here. We have a more reputable taxi business, trying to lure one of the drivers, from the less reputable, or non reputable taxi company. We have new employee Baldwin, with big dreams, who wants to make something out of this taxi stand of less repute. A subplot is thrown in, sort of, which brings our deadbeat delinquent drivers of D.C Cab to the rescue. I love the reckless attitudes of the cab drivers, who change their form, later, thanks to Baldwin, so this film, sets a solid ground message. That, followed by a great soundtrack, by Irene Cara, and a great memorable pageant scene finale/end credit sequence, makes this a good watch. There are many memorable classic moments, in this '84 Comedy, that has some great boobies, great mateship and exciting, ala, Schumacher.
... View MoreAre you ready for this? One noted national critic said, "All you have to do is clean up a few sentences and this would be a great movie for the kids." Unreal. Only some clueless Liberal critic would be this stupid about what constitutes something you'd want your kid to see.The film begins with a bunch of language problems capped off my a woman about to give oral sex to a guy in the back seat of a cab. Yup, sounds a good "family film" to me!! (At least, if your family happens to have a dad who is in the White House looking at interns.)Speaking of names, how about Mr. T, Bill Mahar, the Barbarian Brothers (bodybuilders Peter and Paul), Gary Busey and Paul Rodriguez? Does that still sound like "family fare?"Forgetting the family angle, and the "usual suspects" listed above aren't as bad as it may sound, this movie does sport a general "good" and a "bad." The bad is that a lot of it is just plain stupid. But stupid can be funny. Jim Varney made stupid funny as "Ernest P. Worrell," but not many of these lame actors, led by Mr. T., who will never be confused with Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro or Morgan Freeman, can pull it off.The "good" is that there actually are some nice messages in here, mainly that one can pull oneself up and make something out of a bad situation. It's a positive message, overall, believe it or not....so the film is not entirely as dumb as it looks.....sort of.
... View MoreMaybe this movie just gets better in my memory, but I really enjoyed it. Over the years, I find myself remembering flamethrowers with a smile. The cab company made up of misfits... Busey and his stereo, Mr.T and his attitude, Adam Baldwin and his ability to be in the wrong places at the right times... these all lead to the quirky ways that might help them beat the other cab company, if they can pull together in time. And let's face it, would it have been made a movie in the early '80's if they couldn't?Those who like movies like "Super Troopers" and the cheesy films of the last 25 years will enjoy it as well.
... View MoreThe 4 erroneous assumptions made in the making of D.C. Cab:Casting out of comedy clubs garuantees that said comedians will be funny on-screen as they trample through even the blandest of scripted "comedy".Audiences won't mind that Mr T, despite being on the poster, video boxes and all other advertising related to film is actually a small cog in the comedy wheel.Devoting a large narrative strand to where-are-they-now?/who-were-they-then? regular Irene Cara will ensure timeless appeal to Irene Cara fans for years to come.Idealistic Adam Baldwin is not made of cardboard. These failings aside, the movie offers a few ace Busey moments (You ever done drugs/I don't remember.).In short, it's an ensemble comedy, in the same Hollywood line that gave the world Revenge of the Nerds, the Police Academy movies, and Summer School. This movie sits somewhere below these. The cast is a little overcrowded, with too much of the "plot" devoted the weakest parts of the ensemble. Just out curiosity: How hard is it to write a movie around Mr T or Gary Busey? It seems that too often T is forever looped into heavy-with-a-heart-of-gold roles, while Busey just gets 2nd bananas, villains and maniacs.
