It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

I have watched this movie numerous times and I love the characters of Beau and Chiles. Gwyneth Paltrow is just not a great actor. The other two upstage her with their acting and sunging. Gwyneth can't sing and her acting abilities as a country singer is too much Hollywood. I wish they would have gotten someone else for the role Kelly. Tim McGraw is ok nothing special. The chemistry of Garrett Hedlund and Leighton Meester is wonderful. They truly are country in this movie. Love their songs.

A guy wearing a cowboy hat, boots, jeans, and flannel shirt parks his piece of junk pick-up truck and carries his acoustic guitar as he walks into a bar on a Saturday night. He doesn't play the guitar particularly well or sing particularly well, but the crowd (especially the women) is mesmerized by his country-style machismo. If anyone reads this, they're probably laughing by now, but this is a scene in the movie, and as far as I can tell they expect you to take it seriously.Note: I've been to Texas. I've visited over half a dozen cities and town including Lubbock, Amarillo, Houston, Dallas and San Antonio. I've even been to Lukenbach. The first time I visited Texas I wore some cowboy boots. I felt like an idiot. No one was wearing cowboy boots or cowboy hats. I think this mythical place where people wear flannel shirts, boots and hats only exists in some movie producers' mindsBut there's more. There's the has-been fading star struggling with addiction as she struggles to hold on to her career. There's the husband/manager who is more concerned with her career than her health. Then there's the young wannabe starlet trying to make it in the business. And for some reason, I can't figure it out, these people are adored by the multitudes of fans. If this were a comedy, I'd get it. But I think it's supposed to be taken seriously. The one highlight is Leighton Meester who plays the young wannabe. She's a very versatile actress, and her performance in this movie explains why she's in such high demand as an actress both on television and on the big screen.

First I want to disclose I'm not a good writer AT ALL, and I've never wrote a review before. I have no idea what I'm going to end up writing so if you've never seen the movie... Don't continue reading, just know the movie is... Amazing. I tried watching the movie three or four times and was never able to watch the entire movie. But watching parts of it three or four times, made me finally take time out of my crazy life to watch the entire movie. I have to say it lifted my heart. Gweneth's performance should have won her many awards! The song she sang, "Coming Home" truly made my heart lift, and gave me goose bumps. I'm not one of those people that is star struck... Movie "Stars" are just regular people, who go to work everyday like you and I. I've never really been a fan of anyone... But after watching this movie I must say I am a fan of Gweneth's. She showed that she can act any script that is given to her. Truly a great movie start to finish. I wish I was a better writer to convince you more. Just go watch it... You'll love it!

Sort of like "A Star Is Born" for the country music set, and maybe a little "Walk The Line", don't forget "The Rose". and oh, of course, "All About Eve".. As a matter of fact, there's not that much originality in this movie at all, despite it's interesting cast. The main reason I saw this is, I like Paltrow a lot, and was curious to see her pull this role (and the singing) off. She does so with great effect. I like how the final 1/3 become sort of a concert movie, with her pulling out all the stops! Yeah! She's country! The film is sort of knee jerking around though, people shift from one emotion (caring) to another (not caring) without much explanation though. Still, if you're a country music fan, it's hard not to pass this one up.
