... View MoreIt’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

... View MoreI was advised to see Page 3 before viewing Corporate but one of my sisters went ahead and bought the DVD to Corporate last week and I had no choice but to watch it with her. :-) Sorry! Wow! this film was as deep as it was stark, it weaves a very complex tale around the darkness that exists beneath the corporate world most specifically on this case -- the Indian corporate society.Bipasha Basu plays Nishiganda Dasgupta, a ruthless business profession who would stop at nothing to make her team as well as her company shine and prosper. Kay Kay Menon plays Ritesh, her fiancé as well as the brother-in-law of her boss Vinay Sehgal (played by Rajat Kapoor). Together, all three as well as the rest of their team plan on winning a contract that would bring in major profits for their company, but first they up outdo and outshine the competition in doing so. When the competition wins a much coveted award, and a mysteriously shallow representative named Pervez Merchant (played by Sandeep Mehta) makes Nishi an offer she can't refuse, she decides to take him on and then virtually down for all he is worth. In doing this, she is able to steal the top secret formula for a new product that the competition is about to develop and release to the world and make her company beat them to the production of it. The product is developed but before its release is found to be contaminated, but Vinay, being the cheating, conniving and ruthless businessman that he is forces the hand of his colleagues into releasing the contaminated product to the public anyway. Look for a special cameo by Vasundhara Das, who sings the party diddle that markets the product. Not too long down the road, the competition gets winds of the conspiracy and reports it to the police who take action. They raid Vinay's company's manufacturing depot and conduct tests which in turn reveal that the product is indeed contaminated. Fearing retribution and bankruptcy Et. Al., Vinay gangs up with his unsuspecting wife (played by Achint Kaur) and together they summon Ritesh. They tell him to get Nishi to take the fall for the company under the pretext that the would spring her free within a few weeks but little does Ritesh know that he is literally digging his own grave in doing so. Javed Akhtar, Prahlad Kakar, Raj Babbar, Lillete Dubey and Harsh Chhaya co-star in the intensely gripping drama that should win Ms. Basu and well as Kay Kay a bunch of accolades next year. Also, look for a dead ringer spoof of director Karan Johar during the filming and direction of the "O Sikander" Sufi song during the film. A very welcome funny scene in the midst of lots of bouts of unhappiness.
... View MoreIt is the story of corporate sleaze. Of course it is too much of cliché that corporate heads portrayed like mafia heads. But the film is interesting. The of story is purely narrative and linear. The film portrays the rivalry between two groups of companies, Seghal and Marwah. Somebody made a disputable statement that every rich man must have committed at least one sin in rising up the ladder. In this story there are too many sleazes and unethical acts that one comes to hate the business men and the higher executives in such companies. The nexus between the big business and higher politics and the media and NGOs is well known Nisigandha (bipisha) is high in the corporate world of Seghal groups who goes to extremes to steal the secrets from the CEO of the rival company. The part of her actions are due to the love and affection she has for Ritesh the brother-in-law of Seghal, who becomes the taam head. When the let down comes it is Nishi who has been the sacrificial bull. It is not that she has not done her share of crimes but everybody did and it is a pity that only she suffers and others escape with minor injuries. The finale is itself is disappointing. Nishi taking all the blame and goes to prison-for whose sake, and Ritesh commits suicide or was he murdered/ I don't think that business rivals murder each other except in Tamil serials. They are not mafia. Of course it is politically correct to portray them like that. Not that the businessmen are pure like a newly born babe. The narrative is interesting and Bipisha has acted very well. An interesting film and with tight screen play (but for the three unnecessary song and dance items) and everybody acted their roles competently.5.5 out of 10
... View MoreCorporate explores the dark world of politics and under-the-table boardroom techniques in the business world. Set in present day Mumbai, it follows the story of our main protagonist Nishi (Bipasha Basu) and how everything and everyone around her have an effect.Tightly scripted and well acted, Corporate could have made it to being the best film this year, if it wasn't for a few things.1. The director brings in songs where they weren't needed. The item number, especially, was completely out of place.2. The slight love angle between Minisha and Sameer is totally useless... in fact, Sameer's character wasn't even needed.3. the character of the pervert CEO was pushed too far. He is a middle aged man in a bad marriage. He likes other women. But he doesn't need to bite his lips all the time in a horny fashion. Totally unrequired and a bit unrealistic.4. Bpasha's scene at home with Minisha did not need to have as much emotion as it did. It came off weak, since she was shown as a strong woman. A strong woman in a bad marriage would not be weeping that way 5 years later. All this does not mean that this is a bad movie. It is a rather good one, in fact. These points have been marked just as a severely critical viewpoint. You can actually walk in and totally enjoy the film.
