Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.

Having watched many Korean films through random finds I came across this gem. Not only is this film suitable for the hard of reading (some people hate subs) but its great for the spectrum of film watchers who appreciate more than just a spectacle of visuals or heartstrings. I was on a bit of a roller coaster after watching "I saw the devil" the evening before so i was expecting to be yawning and anticipated a chick flick...Not really a big fan of Lee Hae-jun but i was so surprised how much I enjoyed this film.. Ups, downs and laughs.. Spend a bit of time on the couch with wife, husband or partner and snuggle down for a cracker of a film...

I admit I came into this movie with low expectations, but since the first scene I was hooked. This movie has everything I looked for in a movie: comedy, good dialogue, romance, sad moments, happy moments and most importantly actors who play their roles perfectly. Plus it is so relevant to the society we are in today, it brilliantly show us the alienation that exists in this super connected, social medial, 24 hrs busy lifestyle we are forced to exist in. And the beauty being completely free of all the stress and anxiety we are forced to endure. But to be completely honest I don't think this movie is as anti-social and anti-modernism as people think it is. I think this movie is about two people over coming their general hatred of society and connecting in a beautiful, meaningful relationship. I find that so much of my life is simply putting on a mask and pretending to be someone who is agreeable. It takes a special type of courage (or lack of it) to completely dissociate themselves from society and live life by their own means. In a way I wish I hadn't watched this movie because I know I probably won't get the sheer enjoyment from another film for a very long time. If you do not watch this film, then I simply feel sorry for you. It so hard to come by a true masterpiece these days and I will definitely be looking forward more work from the two actors and director.SJ

In the mood for a quirky comedy that also tackles the human condition? It would be hard to do better than this gem. A man's failed suicide leaves him stranded on a river island in Seoul. He is so close to civilisation, yet completely removed from it. After several attempts to escape, he resigns to his lot and starts scavenging an existence on the small speck of land.Meanwhile a woman, who hasn't left her room in three years due to her scarred face, spots him by accident as she looks through her camera. In a sense she is as isolated as he is and the two start an unlikely relationship. It's hard to pinpoint here what makes this story work so well, but it walks the line between comedy and drama without becoming either ridiculous or sentimental. It's also an impressive film considering the few characters and narrow theme. This is a unique film - one of those rare types that defy genres and even cultures. The only thing foreign about this film are the subtitles - everything else is so close to being human that anyone can relate to its story.
