Self-important, over-dramatic, uninspired.

It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.

This movie is one of four films-continuators of TV series Sinful People of the city of Prague (Hrisní lidé mesta prazského), a collection of stories about the crimes and criminologists (with the legendary chief of the investigators Vacátko (Jaroslav Marvan performs him in this full-length pictures too.). This movie is not only an investigation of the murder but it's also o portrait of the "femme fatale" from the periphery (Paraplícko, Little Brolly) and the safe-breaker Penicka who is her lover. So this is wonderful psychological movie with criminal plot. Movie has a great atmosphere of old Prague full of bizarre people and small figures. This half-world is stylized as the world of strange poetics: the criminals sing and dance in dirty pub Poison Chanty, live along their own rules and has their specific fashion and language. It's one of the most interesting Czech mysteries!
