Blood & Donuts Trailers

In 1994, in Toronto, the vampire Boya awakens from his twenty-five years of sleep in a basement hit by a golf ball. He takes a cab to the local cemetery, retrieves his belongings from a grave and lodges in a low budget hotel nearby an all-night donut shop. Boya does not drink human blood anymore but rats and pigeons blood instead. While in the donut shop, Boya befriends and protects the taxi driver Earl, who is having trouble with two criminals, and falls in love for the waitress Molly. Meanwhile, his former passion of 1969, Rita, who misses her lost youth, is trying to locate him.

Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.

This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

If you are checking reviews here before bothering to stream this movie, do not be taken in by all the cutesy campy praise from people with a fond spot in their hearts for big hair from their '90s youth. The acting and scripted dialog are exceptionally bad with leaden one take delivery and pointless wretched accents that smash any possible suspension of disbelief. The only reason I gave it one more than a one is that it was shot on film instead of video and was edited in chronologically intelligible order. This is the kind of movie soft core porn producers and directors made in the eighties and nineties in hope of getting out of the skin trade; I know because I used to crew for them. Absolutely a waste of the time required to fast forward through it.

There's a place between the living and the dead... and it is open 24 hours.First and foremost, let us state the obvious: the taxi driver talks like a "constipated Christopher Walken", in the words of my girlfriend. And that is unfortunately annoying, but not annoying enough to distract from an otherwise good film. The lead actor is pretty good and rivals Johnny Depp's performance in "Edward Scissorhands". These films share the same sensibility in many respects, but go off is quite different directions.Even David Cronenberg showcases his acting, which is just as remarkable as his directing (he is also excellent in "Nightbreed"). His bowling shoes analogy could have sounded asinine from someone else's lips, but Cronenberg makes it sound profound.I loved the parallel with heroin addiction, which was particularly topical for a mid-1990s film, as the grunge was literally dying from the drug. I do not know if this was intentional, but i certainly felt like there was some inspiration there. While it is hard to call any vampire film "fresh", this one has some aspects that make the old genre seem new.The worst thing about this movie? The title. What has kept me away from this movie for almost twenty years is that terrible name, which gives the impression of an even lower budget film than it is. In fact, it is not a bad movie at all and at least as good as the average 1990s horror film. More people should really give it a chance.

"Blood and donuts" is a an unusual film.It is one of the few films with a vampire that contains very little blood and the vampire is a very sympathetic character.the vampire is very shy and unassuming, and only harms people when there are no other options.he also has sense of humour.but this movie is more a study of human relations than anything else.the story revolves around the people that"Boya", the vampire, forms relationships with, via an all night coffee/donut shop.the movie is very low key in every aspect, which is very effective in this case.the movie is strangely compelling though it contains mostly passive action.this is an example of minimalist film-making,a film that is very much character driven.the vampire is very likable, with a genuine care for people and has a romantic streak.there are 2 other main characters,Earl a cab driver who,for reasons unexplained, is on the lit list of 2 minor thugs, and Molly, who works in the donut shop. These two characters are likable in a sad way.the whole film has an air of melancholy about it.so it stands to reason the characters themselves are also written as being sad,(as in having little hope),people.the 2 hoods are unlikable, and painted as sort of inept and pathetic.the movie itself is unique and low budget, and interesting to watch.if you are an action fan,you may not like this film.however,if you like a film with psychological underpinnings running through it, you should like "Blood and Donuts".

I actually recommended this movie last week. It's trying really hard to be a cult classic, and the chances of that happening are either destroyed or ensured (history will tell) by some guy you never heard of before pretending to be Christopher Walken from start to finish. As much as I'd like to lift my nose skyward and pooh-pooh films like this, I was captivated from the start and watched with rapt attention until the end.
