The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable

BFFs (2014/I) was directed by Andrew Putschoegl, and written by the two stars, Andrea Grano and Tara Karsian. Andrea Grano plays Samantha, and Tara Karsian plays her friend Kat. They obtain tickets to a spa weekend at Closer to Closeness, "a healing retreat for couples in trouble." The problem is that they're not a couple--they're best friends, and both are straight. In the context of this film, the New Age therapy practiced during the weekend is serious, sincere, and (presumably) helpful. Whatever your thoughts are about the effectiveness of such therapy, the couple running the retreat, and the people signed up for the retreat, are honest and genuinely trying to improve their relationships.Obviously, Samantha and Kat start out thinking about the pool and the food, but, as the weekend moves forward, something starts to happen. The "something" is what makes the movie interesting. We saw this film at the Little Theatre as part of the excellent ImageOut Rochester LGBT film festival. It will also work well on DVD.
