Beyond America Trailers

Under an Eastern European totalitarian regime, a prominent dissident writer survives repression by resuming a submissive sexual relationship with her former lover. After their split-up years ago, he had joined the Secret Police in order just to take her back and provide the protection she needed. Struggling to preserve her humanity, she falls in love with a young platonic dreamer, a kind of rebel without cause, whom she initiate in literature and reinvents as a character capable to meet her own desires of freedom. BEYOND AMERICA is a love story and an action drama altogether, with archetypes of an aggressive, totalitarian society.

Beautiful, moving film.

A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.

Quiet Muffin

This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.

Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

A pathologically foolish script, with no head or tail, unable to follow coherently the simplest functions of the humans involved: they speak, act and move like some faulty puppets. It would be too much to start talking about "story, motives, content, reasons, meaning, ideas"... Eugen Serbänescu is not able to gather together a primary school level composition. His writing is just a retarded exercise.Same with the so-called "direction". The Barna person is attempting to "make a movie" along a similar paradigm with a traffic agent trying to conduct a Bach symphony. He has no idea what means a "mise en scene", a "shot", "acting", and so on.Can you imagine that, at the opening gala, the whole audience was laughing noisily almost non-stop - and mainly when the main characters were in tormenting pain or even in death danger? The only reason for this production to exist is to show a sample of what can mean the height of absurdity: spending millions from the public money, only to let two morons state: "heya dudes, we mekkit a movvieh!" Sad and grotesque... :(
