This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.

At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

GUENOT PHILIPPE

This little German crime movie makes me think of other crime flicks from over not the Rhine, but the Channel; Great Britain I mean. I watched dozens of those little Dantziger's or Butchers production speaking of bank heists with such actors as, for instance, William Lucas or William Sylvester. Small budget features for all of them and with always a dark ending. This is not an armed robbery tale, but actually a daring burglary, using a small portion of the sewer net and then drilling a hole into a wall besides the bank vault one. A story showing ordinary characters like any of us who suddenly become criminals by deciding to rod a bank. Unfortunately, I saw this in German spoken without any subtitles, so many things miss, but I guess I got the basic line anyway. Hardy Kruger seems convincing as one of the two guys. I repeat, that a small budget caper movie, not a gangster film. Not really. Taut story with a good suspense, which I hope to purchase one day in English spoken or subtitled. This heist looks like the one you have in LES EGOUTS DU PARADIS or LOOPHOLE, but on a tiniest scale, with only two guys to pull the robbery. A little gem to find out folks, with a superb ending. Available on You Tube.
