The film may be flawed, but its message is not.

Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

it is difficult to suggest the tension between two boys in a 8 minutes film. but "En eftermiddag" does a good job. and its basic virtue is the credible context. the careful gestures. the expectations. and the clash between two attitudes defining, in profound sense, the specific of an age. sure, it is easy to blame the brutal end or the clichés. but it is a nice film. touching and useful for meet with old memories from early years. and this is the most important thing. maybe, the only significant. because it is just a film about desire and hope and less of courage and expectation and incertitude. all, in right lines.

I was compelled to write this review as I completely disagree with the negativity the other reviewer gave to this pleasant little movie.Friends Matthias and Frederick go home after school one day and spend their time doing what some teenage boys do, watching videos on YouTube. It soon becomes clear that there is a certain tension between them which both boys seem to be struggling to find a way to deal with, perhaps through fear of rejection.Having been in their situation myself, in less enlightened times, I thought it was handled very realistically as they both struggled to express their true feelings while awkwardly trying to find a way to discover the feelings of the other person. As was mentioned in the previous review, the girl on the internet thing is something I might actually have done and once again it seemed to serve as a way for one of the boys to gauge a reaction from his friend while going back to the "safety" of not admitting your true feelings for fear of rejection.I really don't want to say too much more as I don't want to give away what happens (which is hard considering the film is only 8 minutes long), but I thought this was a nicely made and well acted little movie with both boys portraying the sense of wanting and awkwardness very well. I also feel that after many years of having to endure gay themed movies that all seem to end in either death or break up, its actually quite refreshing to see film makers at least trying to give viewers something more positive in recent years.Judge for yourselves but I would certainly say this film is worth a viewing.

"En eftermiddag" or "An Afternoon" is a Danish 8-minute short film from 2014, so still fairly recent. It is about two teenage boys and one of them is in love with the other or lets say has a crush on the other as the other guy knows nothing yet about his (bad?) luck. The writer and director if this award-winning short film is Søren Green and I think overall, he did not come up with a quality film here. Ihad a problem with realism again, which is the major issue for most gay-themed short films. In their desperate attempts for happy ending, the frequently sacrifice realism completely. This is not the case here, but it still struggles in that area. The scene I am talking about is the one when one of the boys says about a girl on Youtube how hot she is. of course, he does that the very moment when the other one is about to confess his attraction to him. Oh well.. Imagine you are male and you are at a cute girl's place. You have a crush on her and what would you do? Would you say about a guy on the internet how handsome he looks? Seriously? All in all, this was not a good work, even if the acting by the duo is bearable, especially the one with the darker hair. But it's not good enough to make up for the flaws. Thumbs-down, not recommended.
