Along Came Polly Trailers

Reuben Feffer is a guy who's spent his entire life playing it safe. Polly Prince is irresistible as a free-spirit who lives for the thrill of the moment. When these two comically mismatched souls collide, Reuben's world is turned upside down, as he makes an uproarious attempt to change his life from middle-of-the-road to totally-out-there.

Good movie, but best of all time? Hardly . . .

At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

BIG risk analyst didn't see the risk of letting his wife spend the afternoon with a man that she described as being "big"?He tore out the answering machine after it had already played his name?Borrowed scene from Friends? Mot to mention she uses that Rachel character in several movies, which is probably her real personality.Lame

Reuben (Ben Stiller) is a risk management analyst for a company which insures powerful executives. He is very good at his job and pleases his boss (Alec Baldwin) exceedingly. How does he miss on his choice of a marital partner? But, alas, he does. On his honeymoon, Reuben discovers his bride in a tryst with the scuba diving instructor, Claude (Hank Azaria). Back in Manhattan, heartbroken Reuben makes plans to move into the house he bought for his future wedded bliss. Soon after, Reuben is talked into going to an art show by his best friend and struggling actor, Sandy (Philip Seymour Hoffman). Lo and behold, he runs into Polly (Jennifer Aniston) who he knew long ago in high school. She's single, beautiful, and sweet. This is the instant cure he needs for his woes! Not so fast, Rube, Polly is not your match on paper. She likes spicy food, moving frequently, keeping a ferret, and supporting herself with a variety of jobs. As the supreme planner and avoider of risk, how could Polly be a long term romance for Reuben? This funny film has its moments of mirth and is satisfying in concept. Also, the cast is terrific, all, including those named above and such folks as Bryan Brown and Michele Lee. Sets and costumes are also quite nice. What is wrong with the script, my view, is that it often resorts to the most grotesque humor, bodily functions, toilet accidents, etc. Even a wonderfully happy ending doesn't erase this icky humor from the big picture. Therefore, although it is entertaining in parts, those looking for the best in romantic comedy should not get this one. Just Like Heaven, for example, is a better choice. But, this viewer concedes that some may like this one better for the very faults I list.

Along Came Polly does exactly what it says on the tin. Ben Stiller does his usual Ben Stiller routine, whilst Jennifer Aniston is in the comfort zone of her normal type role. Plot In A Paragraph: An uptight neurotic newly wed (Ben Stiller) finds his world turned upside down when his wife leaves him on their honeymoon. He then runs into his old classmate Polly (Jennifer Aniston) and she helps him move on. I'll admit from the off, that I am bias. I love Jennifer Aniston. With her gorgeous girl next door looks and permanently erect nipples. I adore her, and will usually give anything she is in a chance. My main problem with the movie is Ben Stiller once again doing his usual nice guy Ben Stiller routine. It's more than a bit tiresome and boring now, as (with the exception of Dodgeball and Zoolander) he is always playing the same role.On the plus side, Bryan Brown is superb, as is Phillip Seymour Hoffman. As for Aniston, she remains one of the most talented and beautiful women in movies, and her ladylike sexiness is in rare supply. Any movie becomes promising just by having her name in it's cast.It has it's moments before it's predictable ending.

Sometimes I'm sure that people who review a funny movie such as this one and give it a bad rating must simply be the most serious and boring people on the planet. Sheesh.What I love about this movie is how many of the characters have such memorable hilarious moments of their own - Hank Azaria being my all-time favourite as Claude. I'm not a huge fan of slapstick humour; I much prefer relatable humour where real people get in awkward situations, and Along Came Polly is just that. Cringe-worthy and laugh out loud moments...my only regret is not getting to see this in a packed movie theatre!Fun, funny movie and those of us who like laughing will do lots of it during this flick!
