Strictly average movie
... View MoreThe film was still a fun one that will make you laugh and have you leaving the theater feeling like you just stole something valuable and got away with it.
... View MoreWhile it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
... View MoreThere's a more than satisfactory amount of boom-boom in the movie's trim running time.
... View MoreQuite frankly this is the best Hindi movie that I have seen in a long long time. I could relate to the story an the emotion in every frame from start to finish. Hrithik has outdone himself this time and I would say this is possibly his best ever acting performance to date. Everyone, please do go and watch this EPIC of a movie and trust me you will find yourself totally engrossed in a loving son's terrific and honest journey to avenge his innocent father's brutal public murder. The moral of this Legend is: There may be huge, warm and shady trees all around Don't even as the shade of a single leaf Walk on the Path of Fire, Walk on the Path of FireYou will not stop, You will not turn, You will not halt Take this oath, take this oath, take this oath The Oath of Fire, the Oath of Fire, the Oath of FireThis is a great situation Man Walks Tears, Sweat and Blood They swathe Him, they swathe Him Walk on the Path of Fire, Walk on the Path of FireLt. ... View MoreI was a big fan of the original Agneepath so i decided to watch this even though i can't stand most Bollywood movies. The movie is very colourful, and as it started i thought i might enjoy it, but then came Sunjay Dutt. I saw the back of his bald head and thought "please, no, not this guy, please don't let it be him" but it was him. I hate Sanjay Dutt, whom from now on i will be referring to as Sunday Jutt because it's easier to swype and i don't respect him as an actor. I gave him a chance, and to be fair his character is written as one dimensional as can be, a sort of super villain. The director I think forgot he was supposed to be making gangster flick and instead thought he was directing some kind of Greek myth, the music blaring out right from the get go as if we all know of the legend of Vijay Chohan and recognise him as a gangster super star, when in fact he never does anything to deserve the moniker and music. The lead actor is very handsome but didn't have even a quarter of the charisma of Amitabh, I don't really think i ever empathised with him, his delivery was flat un-stylish and un-amusing, I certainly didn't want to be him, he was too damn boring. The only actor who was worth watching was Rishi Kapoor who i was admiring a quarter of the through the film before i when recognised him. The female characters are there... That's about it, they have 'standard' parts which you sort of have to bite your lip and get through because they kinda drag. I'm surprised they actually called this film Agneepath. Why recreate a film and then change the story line so much. It's essentially a different film that has some similarities but hardly worthy of being called a remake. it suffers from glorifying every word spoken by any of the main characters such that everything is supposed to be epic, there is no down time, no Krishnan Ayer Yum Ye to ground things, not even a great sound track like the original had. By the end it becomes a tedious crawl, i was having flashbacks of the eighties and nineties, of the "Dishahn Dishahn" punching sounds and the dying hero in his mothers arms. At one point near the end i thought the film might have a message, a couple of times there's a line spoken about a weaker man not being able to forgive a stronger man till he can beat him. I thought maybe Vijay might let Sunday Jutt go, but no, apparently Vijay did well not to listen to his wise father, he took nothing on board and got a lot of Cross dressers killed, still, as long as he looked a bit cool along the way eh? That's all that really matters.
... View MoreKaran Johar, for once, has shed the role of the match-maker between two hopelessly different people, united by love or a mushy background score, to produce a masterstroke of sorts. So, Mr.Ram Gopal Varma, please sit quietly in the theatres-no, no, no, no noise at all-and marvel at the spectacular gangster film that Johar has managed to produce, without your frequently used gimmicks(weird camera angles, dark background...don't even get me started). Agneepath is an apt tribute to one of the most flawed, and yet one of the most memorable films, Mukul Anand's 1990 Agneepath, which featured the brilliant Amitabh Bachchan as Vijay Dinanath Chavan(It's Chavan, not Chauhan, as claimed by this film) at the peak of his immensely formidable powers, and Bachchan even won a National Award for his portrayal of a Gangster burning for vengeance. Karan Johar's Agneepath is no different, but this time Vijay metamorphoses from a 36 year old gangster seduced by riches, into a 27 year old youngster who plots and plans his way through to the tops with a death-wish blazing in his eyes. I will not step into the plot; you will have to see the movie for that, but I will have to laud the two stars who keep this movie afloat on their bulky shoulders: Hrithik Roshan as the angry, fiery, young Vijay(not one with a swagger and style), and Sanjay Dutt as the menacingly evil(not slickly devilish, as in the original) Kancha. Hrithik Roshan is a marvelous actor. He is easily one of the most expressive faces around in Bollywood, with the looks and the muscular frame to back his impressive acting prowess. He proves why Zindagi na Milegi Dobara was no flash in the pan, with his fiery, obsessive portrayal of an angst-ridden Vijay. Sanjay Dutt scorches the screen with his evil, and manic portrayal of Kancha. Watch it purely for these two.
... View MoreFor all the talk of the new one being better/different from the original one, this one was very disappointing. Basically despite the honest effort that Hrithik tries to put in, he just could not match the angst and presence that big B had, even in his twilight years. That kind of summarizes it all. Lethargic direction, reasonably cinematography, passable acting, clichés thrown all over it. In the original one there was a build up to the climax with Vijay and Kancha but in this one the anticipation and angst never really got there. And without angst, there is really no Agneepath, notwithstanding the compulsory poetry rendition in the finale.
