Ratings can make or break a movie. How many times have we skipped a movie because of a bad review ? A Good Marriage is a very entertaining, watchable movie.Due to this review,I would of passed on this, but I watched the movie before I read the review.Lucky me.As I try to understand why this movie was given a thumbs down,I cannot come to any rhyme or reason why this movie was tossed in the outhouse.Maybe IMDB should review the reviewer.

A wife's seemingly good marriage disintegrates after she uncovers her husbands dark secret. This is a glossy thriller not unlike the plethora of them produced in the 1980's and 1990's. The casting is good with Anthony Lapaglia suitably charming and dangerous at the same time. Joan Allen has the more difficult role as the wife struggling to come to terms with her husbands deceptions. She really shines here showing just the right amount of vulnerability mixed with strength. Despite the by the numbers plot this still manages to be a fairly entertaining for the first half at least at which point it goes downhill to reach a disappointing climax. This is a distinctly average production and one that won't live long in the memory.

I was attracted to this movie after finding out not only was it based on a Stephen King story, but that Stephen King himself adapted the screenplay. It has a very interesting premise, and some of the promise of the premise is delivered. For one thing, the characters are somewhat smarter than you usually get in a movie like this... but also act somewhat realistically. Some have criticized the Joan Allen character for not acting right away after finding out her husband's secret, but I think most people in her situation would at first find it hard to do ANYTHING. It's interesting to watch this character (and her husband), because it's not telegraphed what any of them will do. Kudos also to the filmmakers for making the movie look pretty good on what was a pretty low budget. However, I will admit that the movie has one significant flaw. As I said in my summary line, the movie is VERY slow at times and is definitely drawn out to near the breaking point. I can understand why some viewers would dislike the movie for those reasons, and I would also admit that if the movie had been cut down by fifteen to twenty minutes, it would run a lot smoother. But I was in a patient mood when I sat down to watch the movie, so I was able to tolerate those slow moments. While the movie IS flawed, I think that those who have seen a wide range and amount of movies (like myself) will see that despite what some IMDb users are saying, the movie is far from the worst movie ever made... and far from the worst Stephen King adaptation ever made. Give it a chance on a slow night.

I haven't seen a new movie based on Stephen King material in awhile, and saw this off Netflix, so I thought I'd give this a go. I noticed it's pretty new- a 2014 film- yet absolutely have no memory of it being released in theaters. Overall, it's a major let-down.Looking into this further, I read at Wikipedia that Stephen King based his book on the Dennis Rader AKA The "BTK Killer". I even read that Rader's daughter was opposed to King doing so, saying she didn't want him to be profiting off the victims. Well, that being said, if you want to see a much better film about BTK (there are at least 3 or 4 others), I would recommend watching the made-for-CBS TV movie called "Hunt for the BTK Killer" starring Robert Forster. It's a "CSI"-style show, with a compelling performance by Gregg Henry as Rader. This movie isn't much more than a Lifetime Movie Network film; a BTK story from the wife's perspective, and really didn't find much interesting or compelling about this piece at all.
