Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.

It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

A terminally ill former CIA agent is given one last assignment in exchange for an experimental hallucinogenic drug that may extend his life, and he struggles to reconnect with his teenage daughter with the time he has left.I know what you're thinking: this is a Nicolas Cage action movie. You're right. In Matchstick Men, Stolen, and Rage, Nicolas Cage has to bond with/rescue his teenage daughter. In Gone in Sixty Seconds, Stolen, and Rage, Nicolas Cage comes back for "just one more job". In Bringing Out the Dead, Nicolas Cage hallucinates over the course of three days. And in Dying of the Light, Nicolas Cage plays a CIA agent dying of a terminal illness. One more: In Drive Angry, Cage's costar is Amber Heard, and he has three days to "complete his mission". Kevin Costner's costar in 3 Days to Kill is Amber Heard. And as is evident by the title, he has three days to complete his assignment. So, yes, you've seen this movie before. And during every since scene, you're keenly aware that Nicky Cage could have played the Kevin Costner role. However, with the well-known plot and without Nicky Cage, this is still a very entertaining movie! Kevin Costner is very likable, and there are several hilarious scenes in which he's torturing someone or about to kill someone but is interrupted by his daughter's embarrassing "I Don't Care" ringtone and has to juggle playing Daddy and being an assassin. The action scenes are exciting and sometimes cringe-worthy (in a "She's going to get decapitated; I can't look!" way), but thankfully the movie stays away from blood and guts. It's really very good, and I recommend it for those who like a little humor in their action flicks. Amber Heard got on my nerves a little, but only because she had a major attitude problem and wore black leather corsets for absolutely no reason. But all in all, her part is small, and Kevin Costner's parental charm more than made up for it.

3 Days to Kill is a very enjoyable movie. Its is about a man who is a spy and has a sickness that causes him to leave his high risked adventures, and he tries to get a fitter relationship with his wife and his daughter. He pushed them away trying to keep them out of danger. When he gets to where his family is an undercover CIA agent follows him in order to complete her mission, and offers him to do it in exchange to get medicine for his condition that could help him live longer. She meets up with him at a market and while they are having this conversation in the vehicle the camera was up close in their faces to show that there is tension and seriousness of the situation. Once they go to the hotel and he goes to get the accountants worker there is a shooting scene and there is music that only us the audience here to further intensify the situation. There was also a scene where the body guard bends over and Ethan comes behind the door, but the camera shows neither ones faces' but shows what is happening which is than pointing a gun at the bodyguard. In the beginning of the movie when the CIA director is talking to Vivian about her mission the camera tilts at each person when they speak. This movie is a great action movie that is fun to watch with family, and even friends. if you're into action, drama, and thrillers then this is the movie i recommend for you.

"3 Days to Kill", a suspense/thriller movie. This film, begins by explaining the situation. There is a man they call 'The Wolf' that is a former German national that sells atomic material to terrorists all over the world. He, and his number one man they call "The Albino" will be making a transaction very soon. The CIA is aware of the transactions that are waiting to take place and are preparing for the take down of both "The Albino" and "The Wolf". The only problem is they don't actually know what "The Wolf" looks like. They call in an Agent named Vivian Galay or Vivi as she is later known in the movie. She will be the one ultimately in charge of making sure "The Wolf" is taken down. The take down of "The Albino" is left to another secret agent named Ethan Renner, played by Kevin Costner. At the transaction the CIA is compromised and everything goes wrong. Ethan ends up running after "The Albino" but Ethan is terminally ill. At the end of their chase, Ethan shoots "The Albino" in the leg but falls to the ground himself because of his sickness. Both "The Albino" and "The Wolf" escape. Ethan is taken to the hospital and finds out he only has about 3 months to live. Because of this he finally goes home to his wife and daughter that he hasn't seen for 5 years. He hopes to reconnect with his daughter because he is finally realizing that he spent his life being a secret agent and not a father. He gets back in touch with his family and tells his wife that he is done with the CIA. Agent Vivi soon contacts him because Ethan is the only person who has actually seen "The Wolf" and he suddenly becomes invaluable to the CIA. Vivi offers him an experimental drug that might save his life, if he agrees to help her kill "The Wolf". He agrees. Ethan is then sent to do many different missions of capturing and killing to help lead him towards information about "The Wolf. Every time he succeeds in his task he is given a dose of the "life saving drug". After his first dose he discovers that there are crazy side effects as a result of taking this experimental drug, and hardly survives past them. Vivi tells him to take a shot of vodka to take the edge off and keep his heart rate down and he will be fine. Keeping your heart rate down and being a secret agent do not go to well together because of the high intensity and stress levels due to the job. As he continues to hide his work and reconnect with his family, things become messy. Family life begins to tie with work life and his priorities come to light. Being a father is his number one goal but the temptation to keep working for this drug that may keep him alive is too much to pass up. An example is when he was in a violent interrogation, he was called to the principles office because of his daughter. He packed the man he was interrogating in his trunk and headed strait over to the school. Another time was when he doing a similar interrogating job, with a different victim. His daughter called and needed his help knowing how to make spaghetti. Conveniently the man he had abducted was Italian. Ethan had the man talk to his daughter and explain how to make spaghetti sauce as if he was actually in a casual business meeting. Even though he was tied to a chair and had had a gun to the Italians head. Therefore, the inconvenience of balancing a secret life, being a dad, and being dependent on a drug was catching up to him. This continued until they finally got to "The Wolf". I wont spoil the ending because it is a very entertaining movie that everyone should watch. I would rather leave you asking questions.

Even if I didn't know before sitting down to watch this movie that Luc Besson (who wrote and produced) was involved, I certainly would have guessed that early on. That's because this movie has echoes of other Besson movies, most notably "Taken". However, what this Besson movie has that a number of his other movies doesn't have is a good helping of (light) comic relief. I will admit that I did find some of this a little amusing. As for other merit to be found in the movie, I did find the action scenes more coherent than usual for a 21st century action movie, and they did have some excitement. And Kevin Costner does a pretty good acting job, believably showing his character has various weaknesses while at the same time showing his character still has some skills. However, the movie despite all this is sunk by what I stated in the summary line - it tries to do too much. It juggles various plot threads around so much that it doesn't feel that any plot thread gets enough time or gets properly concluded. Maybe if the movie had tried to accomplish a lot less we would have had something here, but as it is, it's somewhat of a mess of a movie.
