Too much of everything
... View MoreI enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
... View MoreThe plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
... View MoreStrong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
... View More'21 and Over' is about two lads who decide to take their friend out for a drink the night before he's due to attend a highly-important job interview. Naturally, things don't go as planned. But then that's the first problem - believability. I doubt anyone would actually agree to go out drinking with people who have a proved history of getting into trouble. Then there are the two 'lads' themselves - one of them is likable enough, whereas the other is a complete ******. He's one of the most unlikable characters you'll ever find... and we're expected to root and care about him for the duration of the film. Then there's the story itself. It tries to be outrageous, but comes across as just dull. There aren't that many 'laugh out loud' moments and there's a pointless love story woven into the plot.People are naturally likening it to an adolescent version of 'The Hangover' or 'American Pie.' However, despite being about going out and getting drunk, this is nothing like the (far superior) Hangover or as happy-go-lucky and enjoyable as American Pie. In 21 and Over there just isn't the same sense of tension. The three boys are 'stranded' in a busy town centre with working mobile phones - hardly the middle of the desert and any trouble they encounter is largely of their own making.Just stick to the Hangover or Pie if you want your fix of teen shenanigans or drinking troubles.
... View MoreThis movie got terrible reviews but it's amazing. Everyone is so hung up on the Hangover series that they thought this was an imitation when they couldn't have been further from the truth. The reviewers saying its "stupid bro comedy" (The slapstick of the 21st century) are too naive to understand it was actually a commentary on how far friends drift apart after high school and how the pressure of rushing into adulthood can prevent you from being yourself. I might have not enjoyed it in theaters, but watching it at home with some friends brought on some serious laughs. It carries a strong message and I'd say it's definitely worth a watch.
... View MoreLike other reviewers have said, this is just another shock comedy, like The Hangover, except that it's even more crude and sophomoric, and isn't really funny. It's a bad Hangover knock-off. Not sure how I made it to the end.I guess if you're a teen or twenty something, enjoy this type of trash in general, or, if you're not sick to death of seeing the male reproductive organ made to be a big joke like so many other R-Rated movies recently, then you'll feel right at home with this movie. They should have just called this movie, "21 & Over, and our dicks".I should add that if you like hearing the F-bomb dropped over and over and over again for no good reason, then see this movie. I swear, when it's needed, not every other word like one of the main characters in this movie.Personally, I'm sick to death of gratuitous penis jokes, penis comedy, making the penis "A" joke, instead of what it's really used for, you know, to create life. The vagina is "hands off" to the movie industry, but man, the penis has never been more popular, but in a bad way.Hey Hollywood, it's time to put it back in your pants.
... View More"21 and Over" is like a 21st Century version of "Animal House" and "Porky's" - only this one comes with a bit of a social conscience, as befits the times we live in.Miles Teller, Skylar Astin. and Justin Chon play buddies from childhood, now ending their time in college, who reunite to celebrate the 21st birthday of one of them, Jeff Chang (Chon). Astin's Casey is the stuffed shirt who's already on the fast track to a career on Wall Street after he graduates; Chon's Jeff is the stressed-out A-student whose dad is pressuring him to ace a med school interview the next day; and Teller's Miller is the Stiffler-type wise-ass who refuses to grow up, convinced that the only life worth living is one patterned after the "American Pie" movies.Against their better judgment, Astin and Teller- take Chon out for a celebratory bender, resulting in what anyone with any knowledge of how these things customarily work out in the movies can plainly predict. Yet, beyond all the drinking, brawling, sex rituals and generalized pandemonium, "21 and Over" actually has some poignant things to say about friendship and finding that fine line between becoming a mature adult and selling out to a life devoid of fun and joy. Luckily, the screenplay by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore (who also directed the film together) doesn't overdo it in the moralizing department, neatly balancing the insights with a steady stream of ultra-crass frat-boy hijinks. The movie even has some fun skewering the misogyny and sexual double standards that prevail among some of the male youth of today. The movie is helped immeasurably by the performers who bring both humor and heart to the proceedings. They make the nonsense not only bearable but actually quite enjoyable at times.
