... View MoreLook, I LOVE bad horror movies, but this was just bad in the regular connotation. This looked interesting (ie Bill Moseley, Ogre) but it was a pile of crap. The gore was uninteresting, the plotline wasn't even funny enough to be funny. I wish I got my time back from watching this, seriously.
... View MoreThis was 2 hours of my life I will never get back.I though the film was so bad that I went to the effort or registering with IMDb just to write this ! The film is all overdubbed and that makes it impossible to believe, its so obviously studio acoustics that's its difficult to focus on the dialog content. Fortunately there is no plot so it does not matter if you glaze over the conversations.I have no idea why a group of people were touring the country and filming them selves, it made no sense. The effects were very cheap and false, the various methods of murder were a cliché, the characters were lacking any depth or emotion don't bother, don't even watch it thinking "i'll give it a go", its terrible
... View MoreHave you ever wondered why ? Of course you have. We all do from time to time, and it sure does feel mighty appropriate here. Steadily ever more, one finds themself pondering, why oh why am i still watching this ? And once or twice amongst those times, you really just have no answer. 2001 maniacs: Field of screams tries to place a spin on the classic setup of the original movie and it's recent remake by variation of an entirely insignificant fact. And it does so with impudent incompetence. This is one of those times where sloppy editing, bland direction, awful acting and a terrible, terrible script come together and gang up to form one giant assault on your precious free time. The whole thing has a distinct 'emanuelle' feel going while clearly also desperately tries to be another run off the mill teenage slasher-fest. But it merely ends up being long, uninteresting and quite frankly, just annoying to watch. Simple shooting tricks are never used. Cuts are made way too late or not at all and the only two people who are even trying to spout the horrible, sexist and childlike dialogue are bill moseley and lin shaye. Again, why are you two even in here ? Avoid this soft-core porn cash-in at all costs. This does not even resemble the original movie, or any kind of movie for that matter, at all.
... View MoreHow to review a movie like this? There was a time when straight-to-video movies were B-movies, that is a notch below A movies, less budget, less fancy locales and effects, fewer A-list cast members. These days a straight-to-video usually means something D-Z quality.I liked the the first 2001 Maniacs and was quite shocked to see that this one is directed by the same guy. What on earth happened from the time of the first to this? Rather than improve and do something bigger and better they went the other way.The good cannibals from Pleasantville are going through hard times. No Yankees stopping by. So they decide to go on the road and take their Southern charm to the north in the form of a circus of sorts. As luck will have it, a filming crew filming a reality show based on two bleached blond young bimbo friends/sisters gets a flat tire on the circus grounds.Rather than just kill the cast and crew the maniacs force them to watch their circus routines before killing them. What follows is an series of embarrassing skits that are nowhere near funny. If you're attempting to do comedy, you need a writer who can pull it off. Politically incorrect jokes shouldn't be too hard to come up with, but the people behind this movie apparently couldn't find a comedy writer. But what ruins this movie from the start is the terrible audio. No ambiance audio is used at all, it's all re-recorded, on cassette tape it seems and without a timer. If you don't have the budget to re-record, don't do it, or wait till you have the money. That deficiency puts the movie immediately in Z-movie territory. The awful script and direction doesn't help a bit. As a director you need to be able to tell the difference between what works on paper or in a comic but doesn't work on film. Here no one bothered to think that through. Not only does the director return from the first part but also plenty of the cast is back. Poor Bill Moseley and Lin Shaye do their best but not even they can save this mess. There are few positives to this movie: lots of gore and lots of pretty topless girls. And that's the only thing worth seeing here. Just because you have a few bucks to make a movie doesn't mean you should do it. More and more the job of a producer is these days to be able to discern when a movie is doable or not. I take it costs have dropped over the years and distributors aren't discriminating in the least. So it falls to the producers to figure out what kind of a movie they would release and whether it wouldn't be better to wait and find more financing first. A shame really. This series deserves better, it's original, politically incorrect, and entertaining, and I look forward to an entry that redeems this one.
